Sport

I enjoy many sports such as tennis, skiing and cycling but my favourite sport of all is netball. I first played when I was six and have been lucky enough to be part of some very successful teams at school, club, county (under 14s and under 16s) and university level. In my final year at school I was vice-captain of the netball team which came second in the Daily Telegraph's National Schools Netball Finals. Since starting university I have played for the Manchester University Women's Netball Club second team for three years and in my final season I have been elected by the squad members as the Club Captain.

MUWNC Club Captain

Being Club Captain of the University netball club has been challenging, time-consuming, stressful but a hugely enjoyable experience. The main role is to be the point of contact between the Athletics Union and the squad members (fifty girls), to organise the finances, training schedule and coaching, fixtures and transport for the four competitive BUCS teams and to provide and implement a clear club development strategy for MUWNC to progress and hopefully improve our BUCS ranking. This year we've managed to work with a sports pyschologist and strength and conditioning coach alongside the squad coach to help develop and potentialise our players. I have also managed to access England Netball funding which we can use to help subsidise UKCC netball coaching qualifications for a few squad members. Another key responsibility of being Club Captain is to ensure the members are having fun, feel settled and making friends whilst at university so I take a very active role in making sure the club is as welcoming as possible, through socials and the annual tour!

Head girl

In my final year at school I was elected by the students and staff to be a representative for the school both internally and externally. I had to organise the charities week, where we broke previous school records raising over £3800; two balls one of which was held at the prestigeous Leeds Castle; as well as making speeches to prospective students and parents. This required great organisation, confidence and responsibility, and developed my communication skills and ability to work with people of varying age and status.
